Activity List - Flex Calendar Program Activities - 2007-2008
1. Course Instruction and evaluation
- Continuing training in etudes ng, moodle, coursecompass, online teaching and pedagogy
- Coordination of technology training with the Tech Committee to include assessment of faculty needs for technology training - Fall 2007 - Fall 2008
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive professional development plan for improving basic skills instruction - Fall 2007 - Fall 2008
2. Staff Development, in-service training and instructional improvement
- In service-training for classified - professional improvement day for Classified - (8/24/07)
- Flex Day for Faculty - (8/30/07) - workshops on Student Learning Outcomes, Assessment of SLO's, and Basic Skills - goals, objectives, and action plans
- Develop and train faculty in "Best Practices" in Basic Skills
- Develop and train faculty in "Best Practices" in writing and assessing Student Learning Outcomes
- Hold a "Great Teachers Workshop" at Mission - Spring 2008
3. Program and Course Curriculum or learning resource development and evaluation
- Coordinate with the Curriculum Committee and Chair and Basic Skills Director to develop curriculum for partnering of classes and the implementation of the "basic skills" pilot project
- Bring in curriculum experts on SLO's, and "Best Practices" on Basic Skills to assist faculty in developing "basic skills" curriculum
4. Student Personnel services
- Work with the VP of Student Services in developing and implementing "basic skills" workshops, activities, and student ASO club activities encouraging the "One Book-One Campus" activities in support of basic skills.
5. Learning Resource Services
- Develop additional workshops on Information Competency for students in conjunction with the Library staff and LRC Director
- Develop workshops in conjunction with the Library and LRC Director for Faculty for "Best Practices" both in SLO's and Basic Skills
6. Related activities, such as student advising, guidance, orientation, matriculation services, and student, faculty, and staff diversity
- Develop and implement student orientation to online, hybrid and blended classes
- Work with the VP of Student Services to develop web-based advising, guidance, orientation and matriculation services - Fall 2007 - Spring 2008
- Develop and implement "diversity activities" - such as "One Book-One Campus" diversity on campus, along with a Spring Ethics Consortium
- Work with the Library in promoting "diversity" topics for both faculty and student discussions
7. Departmental or division meetings, conferences, and workshops and institutional reserearch
- Institute a Spring Ethics Consortium and arrange activities, workshops, and roundtables to discuss relevant and timely "global ethical issues"
8. Other duties assigned by the district
- Attend District sponsored Student Success Initiative meetings and workshops, and then develop and implement training from those meetings and workshops for faculty
9. The necessary supporting activities for the above
- Use the weekly campus bulletin issued by the President's Office to promote the above activities

- Breakfast by the Fountain, Friday, June 8 for Classified
- Flex Day for Classified Staff, Friday, August 24
- Retiring Faculty Certificates - acknowledge before Graduation Ceremony - June 5, 2007
- Flex Day 8-30-07 - will include workshops and break out groups on Student Learning Outcomes and Basic Skills, along with "One Book-One Campus" Project, pairing of classes
- Denim Day and the Clothesline Project for Spring 2008
- Black History Month
- Develop a "Best Teaching Practices Guidebook" for Faculty
- Update the Faculty and Staff Handbook - Spring 2008
- Return to the use of Kudos Awards at Mission College - Staff Appreciation
